TIMO GARCIA

Tech House / Techno

Since 2019, Timo no longer tours or releases under the Timo Garcia guise, choosing instead to focus exclusively on his NOLAN moniker. Having spent many years touring the world as Timo Garcia, his final performance under that name saw him share the stage with David Morales and Marshall Jefferson for Marshall's record label at The Arch for the Brighton Music Conference closing party. A fitting full-circle moment for an artist whose career helped shape modern electronic music.

Anyone tapped into the pulse or keeping score of electronic music over the past two decades will undoubtedly have heard of Timo Garcia. Straddling the fine line between underground darling and big-room, big-tune dancefloor arsonist, his impact as a producer, remixer and DJ has been both far-reaching and well documented.

In a world where DJs and producers are ten-a-penny and hype machines peddle mediocrity as something special, separating the wheat from the chaff is no small task. The real currency has always been consistency and peer recommendation — and few have demonstrated this more convincingly.

That consistency first culminated in Wonderlust Bug, his acclaimed debut artist album, which drew praise from some of the world’s most respected names:
SASHA – “The Hang Drum track is amazing – as is Release, Wonderlust and Lady Luck and the mixed album flows wonderfully too.”
LAURENT GARNIER – “Great work… Great for big room business.”
TIMO MAAS – “Great album… very trippy and great variety!”
M.A.N.D.Y. – “Solid collection of tracks. Well done!”

But talk is cheap — action stands out. A release on Yoshitoshi spent over five months in the Beatport Top 10 Tech charts, cited by numerous world-class DJs in their personal top selections. His remix catalogue reads like a who’s who of electronic music royalty, including Leftfield, Coldcut, Justice, DJ Pierre, Louis Vega, Robert Owens, Danny Howells and Ian Brown.

Alongside this, he explored more atmospheric terrain under his T_Mo downtempo alias, releasing a 33-track ambient album and producing two acclaimed chill-out compilation CDs for Hotel Es Vivé Ibiza, showcasing both his production depth and curatorial finesse.

His reputation spread quickly among influential label heads and tastemakers. ElRow Music, Exploited, Noir Music, OFF, Compost, Lost Records, Skint, Southern Fried, Stealth, Yoshitoshi, Nervous, Leena, CR2, Toolroom and Hed Kandi are just some of the globally respected imprints to have released his work. Collaborations with X-Press 2, DJ Pierre and Jerome Sydenham all reached coveted Beatport top positions.

In 2012, seeking to clearly separate his deeper, bass-driven, disco-tinged productions, a new moniker was born: NOLAN. Releases on Get Physical, Bedrock, LNOE, Mobilee, OFF & Nervous  followed, alongside a notable vocal collaboration with Idris Elba. His chart-topping single Everyday & Everynight featuring Amber Jolene spent much of the year in the Beatport Nu-Disco charts, boosted further by a standout remix from KANT. Further collaborative singles featuring FORREST appeared on Mother Recordings and Kittball Records.

Alongside his release schedule, Timo built a formidable touring résumé, playing the main stage at South West Four, headlining festivals from Bestival to Korea’s World DJ Festival, and undertaking extensive tours across Brazil, Russia and India, while also engineering and mixing numerous artists’ projects from his Brighton-based studio.

Whether in underground sweatboxes, expansive festival arenas or refined club spaces, the music under whichever name has always delivered substance, soul and longevity.
